Lynch syndrome (LS), the most significant cause of inherited colorectal cancer (CRC), is induced by heterozygous germline mutations in one of the critical mismatch repair (MMR) genes. LS also heightens the risk of contracting various other forms of cancer. According to estimations, just 5% of those diagnosed with LS possess awareness of their condition. For the purpose of augmenting the identification of CRC cases in the UK population, the 2017 NICE guidelines advise the provision of immunohistochemistry for MMR proteins or microsatellite instability (MSI) testing for all people diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) upon initial diagnosis.
